Holy City Woods is a small business focused on custom hardwood cutting boards founded in Charleston, SC, currently located in Virginia. We pride ourselves on being small, allowing us to stay connected to each client, sharing the experience from start to finish. Each board is one of kind; styles and types of wood used vary and boards are made to order. Brett is our local craftsman. Born in Virginia, Brett’s love of woodworking started at a young age building tree forts. His interest grew in high school during shop class, and he continued to build custom pieces of furniture for friends and family during college. He has always had a passion to create things for people, from food to custom woodworking. Between the creative side of building and power tools, what is not to like? As time went on the tool collection grew along with his passion to create. Wood is unique, each board is different with special characteristics to work with and showcase. Those who know Brett know he is a perfectionist and works hard on each board, taking the time to make each one as if it were his own.
Jen, also from Virginia, raised in South Carolina, decided after one visit to Charleston she would live there full time some day. Fast forward a few years, after culinary school where she and Brett met, and the dream became reality. After 14 years in Charleston together, God had other plans and two relocated back to Virginia in January 2022. Jen, along with shop dogs Maddie & Titus are the support team behind the scenes focusing on sales, and social media along with the final steps for getting boards ready to ship.

How did we get started?
This all started a few years ago when Brett decided to build me (Jen) a cutting board for our 5th anniversary. We posted pictures online, and people were (much to our surprise and delight!) interested in purchasing their own. Fast forward a few months and Holy City Woods was officially on the books.
We are thrilled that you all are interested in what we do and look forward to continuing to share our growth. As a company, we give all the credit to God. We are so thankful for the gifts He has given us and we strive to share that with others giving back where we can.
We believe in giving back to our community so we donate 25% from the sale of each board to local non-profits. When in Charleston we donated to the Lowcountry Food Bank (helping to feed families in the Lowcountry) and our current non-profit is Bread For Life here in Gloucester. However, If you have another local non-profit you would like to support with your purchase, let us know! We have also been involved with charities/ non-profits such as Taste of Charleston, Tri-County Cancer Survivor Day, and Nirvana Wine and Food Festival in Arizona.
